Although your puppy's biting problem may seem like a sign of aggression, you should know that it is actually normal. The tendency to bite is part of your dog's growth process. First, you need to identify the cause of the biting.

The first reason for your dog biting may be stress. All living species react in various ways with their instinct to protect themselves when under stress. When dogs are stressed, they may become aggressive and show a tendency to bite because they perceive their surroundings as a threat. In this case, you need to make your dog feel safe. For this, it will be healthy to know your dog's safe zone and take it to the place it considers safe when it is stressed. These areas are often their beds for dogs.

Puppies chew on things because their teeth itch during teething. You can cope with this biting problem during teething with a few simple methods. When your dog shows a tendency to bite, you should redirect its attention to something else. At this stage, you should satisfy its need by giving it a chew treat.

Your dog wants to play to release its energy during the day. Sometimes it may bite just to get your attention and play with you. To release its energy and adapt to social life, you must take it outside daily. If you cannot take it outside, you can let it spend time indoors with dental floss toys to release its energy. Dental floss toys satisfy your dog's need to bite while also strengthening its teeth, preventing plaque and tartar formation, and providing enjoyable playtime.

If your dog tends to bite during play, it will help to show your dog through your actions that this is not part of the game. When your dog starts biting, suddenly stopping the game and crossing your arms will create the perception in your dog that it is exhibiting inappropriate behavior. It will also be beneficial to teach the basic obedience command, 'let go'. In cases of hard biting, as soon as your dog grabs your hand, firmly warning your dog with the 'let go' command will make your dog feel uncomfortable and stop biting.

All the habits you instill in your dog as a puppy will continue into adulthood. Therefore, especially to prevent biting from negatively affecting your and your dog's social life, you need to stop the tendency to bite before it becomes a habit.
