When choosing food for our feline friends, we want the best. With the increase in food brands and varieties in recent years, the question of 'grain-based or grain-free food?' has always arisen.

The most basic nutrients that cats need in their natural diet are fat and protein. They need to consume these substances to live a longer and healthier life. In fact, cats in nature are completely carnivorous. Although all cats have the same digestive system, there are significant differences between the lifestyles of wild cats and domestic cats. While wild cats play a more active role in their daily lives, the movements of our domestic cats are limited. Therefore, grains are added to the food to balance the amount of protein, taking into account the daily activity of cats.

For complete and balanced nutrition, vitamins and amino acids such as taurine are added to the food after chemical processing and pressure. This process prevents vitamins and minerals from being affected by the chemical process.

What is the Difference Between Grain-Based and Grain-Free Cat Food?

The protein content of grain-based foods is balanced with high-grain foods such as wheat, corn, and rice. Excessive consumption of these grains by cats can lead to weight gain and hypoglycemia (diabetes).

The protein content of grain-free foods is balanced with vegetables instead of grains, and the meat content is higher. Therefore, grain-free foods have a higher protein content. Because the carbohydrate content is lower, it helps cats feel energetic. Grain-free foods also help with weight control in cats. They can be used especially for cats who tend to gain weight due to decreased physical activity after neutering and in old age.

To ensure your furry friend lives a long and healthy life with you, you should be selective about their food, just as you are about everything else, and choose foods that meet all their nutritional needs. Changing the food you constantly use from time to time will be a change for your friend, and they will benefit from the vitamins and minerals found in different foods. You can improve your cat's quality of life by giving them vitamins as supplements.
